Harper Lee Is Publishing a new Book?!?!

382

Today Herper Lee announced that she was releasing a sequel to To Kill a Mockingbird called Go Set a Watchman, 55 years after she first released the modern classic. I am so ambivalent about this! I’m of course going to read it but To Kill a Mockingbird is one of my all time favorites and I’m not sure this new book will live up to the same standard. Harper Lee was quoted as saying “I have said what I wanted to say and I will not say it again,” when she was asked about writing another book after TKAM’s success, so I really hope she has a very good reason for going back on that. I really hope this book is as fantastic as TKAM and my biggest fear is that is will taint it depending on what happens now that Scout is an adult.  This book was technically written first but the manuscript was lost until now. The excepted date of release this summer (July? I think I read that somewhere.)

Hey Guys, I Need Advice

Hi Lovelies, there isn’t anyone in my life that I can talk about this with so I’m sorry, but I’m going to rant it our to you guys and maybe writing it out will be enough for me to work it through, but if you have advice or a suggestion please, feel free.

I hate university. Not the class content, that’s interesting, but I don’t know anyone. There are three girls from my high school that I see rarely. My lectures have more people in them then I had in my graduating class. Never in my life have I had trouble making friends, I’m a chatty person and I like meeting new people but I’ve been here three weeks and it like hitting my head against a wall. No one seems to like me or want to be friends and if I do find someone I can hold a conversation with the next day they are lost in the sea of people. There was a guy I had been texting all summer who is in one of my classes and when we met we arranged to go out for drinks. He cancelled on me 30 minutes before we were supposed to meet up leaving me alone in part of the city I didn’t know, with no vehicle and a dead cell phone. Discouraging isn’t a strong enough word for when someone likes you but as soon as they meet you in person they seem to instantly become disinterested. I know this doesn’t sound great becasue so many people don’t get to go to university, but the thought of sitting for hours between classes by myself makes me cry.

One of my highschool friends convinced me to go to a sorority recruitment meeting (yes, they apparently exist in Canada too, but much less elaborate then in the States, there are about 20 girls in both groups) and I expected stereotypical movie mean girls but they are so friendly and welcoming I instantly fell in love with a bunch of them in both groups and I think I could make some really good friends. But its $750 first year and $400 for each of the following years you are apart of it. That’s a lot of money no matter who you are, but especially for a student. They did break it down as to what everything’s for and if you join any other campus club even though the start up fee is $10, you have to pay for all your activities (ie: ski club: hotel rooms, passes, rentals, busses etc.) and this includes every activities and trips they do, it still is A LOT of money. It doesn’t help that my mom is completely and utterly anti-sorority. It not that I want her to pay or anything, if I do decide to do it I’ll work for it myself, it’s just I really need someone to talk this through with and not instantly say “your buying friends.” I don’t see it like that but sure, fine, I’m buying friends. That how everyone else sees it. At this point paying for the opportunity to spend time with the only people I have met on this damn campus who actually seem friendly doesn’t even sound like a bad thing.  And then throw in actual school work and a part-time job.

I don’t know guys, all I know is I’m somehow sleeping too much and too little at the same time and I almost constantly feel ready to start crying and just feel like I’ve made a huge mistake. As weird as it sounds, I think it would almost be better to have moved across the country and be living away from home is residence, at least then I would have opportunity to meet people in my building.

Liebster Award

Liebster award

Hi Everyone, Jocelyn of  52 Letters in the Alphabet Nominated me for this award a couple weeks ago, Thank you so much and I’m so sorry it took so long! I’m onto round 5 of doing this and I’m pretty well tapped out of people I can nominate!

Jocelyn’s Questions:

1. Can you read in loud places or only when it is quiet? I have 2 brothers and a dog, my house was never quiet when I was younger so I can do either. I like listening to music while I read too,  which I know some people find really annoying.

2. Do you prefer to read stand alone books or series? I really enjoy series because you get to see more of the world and the characters.

3. Who is your favorite author and why? Cassandra Clare! She never leaves me wondering if she’s ever going to write another book! The most frustrating this is when you are reading a series and the author just suddenly drops off the face of the planet in the middle. It’s happened! Carnival of Souls Sequel, Melissa Meyer, I’m waiting!

4. Do you organize your bookshelves in any particular way? By height then alphabetically within height. I know it’s weird! I like my books all being even!

5. What fictional character would you date? William Herondale. #1 fictional boyfriend forever.

6. What is book that has made you angry (for any reason)? The Chrysalids. Can I light this thing on fire? What is that ending?

7. What genre do you never read? Non-fiction.

8. What is the best book you’ve read this year? The Darkest Minds series by Alexandra Bracken is pretty high up there, I don’t know about best.

9. Do you prefer paperbacks, hardcovers, or e-books? Hardcovers! Paperbacks annoy me becasue they fall over and get wrinkled and bend and wear is you ever take them of the shelf.

10. What is one book you wish everyone would read? Rose Under Fire by Elizabeth Wein should be mandatory reading in highschool.

11. What book has influenced your life the most? There have been a lotHarry Potter was/is a huge influence on me becasue I grew up with it, The Infernal Devices Series by Cassandra Clare really made me rethink my relationships with people (romantic and otherwise) and how we interact with each other and the effects we have on one another as well as how I react to events. Divergent by Veronica Roth, the first one in particular, very much so contributed to how I view my thoughts and actions. The Help and other historical-fictions like Elizabeth Wein’s works and The Book Thief made me think about my place in society and if I had been around during these time periods where would I have fallen?

That is all, another huge thank-you to Jocelyn!

Confessions of a Book Blogger

Hi darlings. I started writing a Book Rant on Never Fade and I’m just not feeling it today.  I did something like this last year called 10 Random Facts About Me and today I’m going to give you another completely truthful 10 random facts about yours truly.

1. My perfume is called P.S I love you. It’s a light rose scent with a bit of citrus and it was from Bath and Body Works but it has been discontinued. I have about half a bottle left then I will probably switch to Paris Amour (Essentially the same thing also from Bath and Body Works but it has a vanilla under tone instead of a musk) I have other perfumes, but I don’t wear them much as I find them too strong, especially in summer. Most of them I’ve had for years, does perfume and body mist expire?

2. My bedroom is white with a red accent wall and on one of the white walls I write music, books and movie quotes that I really liked in black sharpie. The most recently added is “I’ll be damned, Cupid’s demanding back his arrow” Begin Again, great movie, I loved it.

3. I must have told you guys this, but I am going to Greece in a few weeks

4. I cannot park in a parking stall that is on my right. I can’t do it. It never works. It doesn’t matter if the lot is totally empty I can never get perfectly in the lines.

5. My number 1 celebrity crush has always and will always be Orlando Bloom. First time I watched Lord of the Rings when I was like in grade…4? I read the books summer before 5 for sure and had a hardcore fictional crush on Legolas.

6. I watch shows on HGTV. That’s the home improvement channel if you don’t know, and it’s a little embarrassing.

7. I will only buy Maybelline mascara.

8. I will not leave the house without doing my eyebrows with an eyebrow pencil. I will go out without foundation or concealer or mascara  or anything else, but my eyebrows need to be done. And this is a recent makeup development. I never used to pay any attention to my eyebrow then just before grad I bought an eyebrow pencil on a whim and it just makes your face so much more expressive and you look more put together no matter what your hair and the rest of your make up is doing. There, beauty thoughts with Lizzie.

9. Lily is my favourite How I Met Your Mother character, not Barney though I do love him too.

None of these are book related! Ok I’ll try and make the last one bookish.

10. I was sorted into Gryffindor by Pottermore.  I was pretty shocked I thought I was going to be a Hufflepuff becasue most people I know are Hufflepuffs but, yeah.

There, out on the internet, more random things about me! Bye guys!

I AM OFFICIALLY ACCEPTED INTO UNIVERSITY!

Guys! Guys! Guess what! What the title says! I was officially accepted today!

I don’t know how it works in other places but where I am you get tentative admission first and then when you write your final exams if your average doesn’t meet where it was when you got the tentative admission (within 1-2%, they aren’t that mean) you don’t get it. I don’t even have my exam marks yet. I don’t know what I got. And I don’t ever care! I AM INTO MY NURSING PROGRAM! Dance party! Look at it! It’s a beautiful green check mark!

I can’t breathe right now! I’m so happy and relieved!

Liebster Award

Hello lovelies! It’s been awhile. I have been nominated for the award by the wonder Holly of  Nutfreenerd. Thank you very much! I have already done this a few times so I’m not going to nominate more people but I’ll answer the questions!

  1. What author have you read the most books by? That would be a tie between JK Rowling and Cassandra Clare both at 7, I think.  Or Mary Pope Osborne who wrote the magic tree house children’s series. I read a lot of those. Are we counting children’s books? Because Dr. Seuss, Rhonald Dahl  and Robert Munsch were my childhood. I read pretty much everything they put out. One of those people.

  2. Where is your favorite place to read? I love reading outside on this little bench on my deck in the summer. In the winter it has to be in my bed in a blanket nest so it’s all warm.
  3. What is your favorite thing about blogging? Being able to get my thoughts out on books and hear what other people think about it.
  4. Coffee or tea? Coffee.
  5. Chocolate or vanilla? Chocolate, always chocolate.
  6. If you had to choose only three books to bring with you to an empty island, which ones would they be? Why do you do this to me?! Oh gosh, ok: Inkheart by Cornelia Funke, Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder, and A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray. None of those are stand alones. Darn.
  7. Which fictional character from a book would you most like to date? William Herondale. Hands down.
  8. Who is your favorite actor? How about actress? Johnny Depp and Jennifer Lawrence.
  9. What is your favorite season?  Summer.
  10. Do you prefer to read paper books or electronic books on an ereader? Paper books!
  11. Which book do you think is the most underrated? I definitely answered this question in a book challenge and my answer was really long. You can go read that if you wish, (here), but to be short I had two books. One I wished more people would read, The Falconer’s Knot by Mary Hoffman, and one lots of people have read and lots of people love to hate though it doesn’t deserve all the bad things, Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. I have a long rant about the second part. You’re all freaking mindless sheep. Before it was decided it was cool to hate, everyone loved it. Stop. Form your own opinions, people! And the movie does not equal the book!

That it all! Thanks again Holly! Concession session, I have not read any farther into Dreams of Gods and Monster, I don’t know when that’s going to get done but it will! Eventually! I can’t even say I’ve been really busy, I have been busy and a lot of stuff has been going on, but I have had time to read and I’ve just slept really.

Bye all! Kisses

Anniversary, thanks lovelies! Plus Random Life Discussions

It's so beautiful! Happy Easter!

It’s so beautiful! Happy Easter!

Today is my one year anniversary with WordPress, apparently! I was informed thusly by the wonderful WordPress people. It been a good year, I’ve had a lot of fun and thank you to the amazing people who read my blog! It is greatly appreciated! ❤ Kisses and HAPPY EASTER! How are you celebrating? I’m working tonight which isn’t as bad as it sounds.

What else is happening in my life? We haven’t talked in awhile, internet friends. I am getting my graduation photos done on Wednesday and I’m debating going back to brunette. I saw this super pretty dark brown-red colour (different brand than the one that turned my hair orange. Still don’t like those people) but don’t know how that will look! My mom has auburn hair so I guess I technically could pull it off. Though my skin is darker than hers. I know, there is surprisingly someone more pale than I am. Anywho, this is the colour:

title_oemsi

It will, unfortunately fade to blonde though! I have like 5 inches at the top of my head that have never been bleached, just dyed repeatedly as my roots grew. Let’s be honest, I mostly want to go back to brown becasue I’m so lazy with my roots. I wait until they are at least an inch and a half before I even consider re-dying them.  Perhaps I’ll try a dirty blonde. Ah so many choices!

I have once again injured my wrist! My left this time. There is this super cool move in my contemporary dance where we fall into plank by flipping side ways out of a hinge. yes it hurts. I have permanent bruises on my arms right now. But it looks super awesome so the price of bad-ass dance moves!

I finally received my copy of Dreams of Gods and Monsters by Laini Taylor! I have been waiting for this book since August AND IT IS SIGNED!!! If you don’t know this book series, don’t even finish this post! Go Goodreads it then pick up a copy! I also finally got my copy of World After – that I ordered in DECEMBER. Thanks Chapters. Way to be on the ball.

School is so stressful right now, I don’t know how some of my friends are doing Bio and Chem plus another class. I mean. I have psychology 35 but that’s not a class. I have 6 quizzes left to write and a final and I’m done. In theory I could be finished by May. I won’t be, but in theory if I worked. I am #206 on the waiting list for my second choice university. Which is essentially a rejection as there are 100 and some seats. But I’m in my first choice as long as I don’t crash and burn in Chemistry. I have a tutor though (He’s super cute, just putting that out there…) and he’s really helpful so that’s good!

What else…I have no leggings right now. It’s really upsetting. All four pairs I had have turned see-through so that is unfortunate. I’ll have to buy new ones becasue I don’t what I’ll wear to tap and contemp. otherwise. I’m a dancer! This is a legitimate issue! My guy friend just laughed at me and was like “it’s ok, you don’t have to wear leggings, you have jeans.” Sigh. First world problems, I know. I sound super shallow and I accept that.

Oh I have Easter break now so I have all of next week off! And all of my friends have left me! There are 3 big school trips going on, one to London/Paris, one to Germany/Switzerland and one to Costa Rica so most grade 12s are on one of the three, then the remaining people are going going places with their families. I know one guy friend that isn’t going somewhere but we both work. C’est la vie. I’m going to Greece in August so I’m happy with that and I don’t mind staying here. I finally have time to read and sleep and run, it’s finally nice outside. It was snowing all last week. Canadian problems.

My life is boring as soup! But how is everything going for everyone else? What is happening in your lives that you wish to share? Bye darlings!
